Siro Pacenti PS Brunello di Montalcino 2009

The colour is medium garnet. On the nose prune, undergrowth, mushrooms, liquorice and balsamic notes. In the mouth good structure, with a fruity drying finish. The aftertaste is medium long.

Brunello is a wine produced with 100% Sangiovese grapes. It must be aged for at least two years in oak barrels and a minimum of four months in bottle, but it cannot be marketed before January 1st of the year following the end of five years, calculated including the year of harvest. Le Cupole 2018

The colour is medium ruby with a tendency to garnet. On the nose black berries, plumbs, liquorice, and cacao. In the mouth light with a drying and bitter finish. The aftertaste is rather short.

Terre More dell’Ammiraglia Cabernet 2018

The colour is deep ruby. The nose is very appealing, with notes of currant, dried figs, and coffee, among others. In the mouth smooth and slightly fruity. At first the finish is a bit rough, but the aftertaste is pleasant and last for a while.

Terre More is produced by Frescobaldi under the Maremma Toscana DOC. Continue reading “Terre More dell’Ammiraglia Cabernet 2018”

L’Albereta Riserva 2017

The colour is medium straw. On the nose strong notes of butter and vanilla. For my taste a bit too similar to a Californian Chardonnay. In the mouth very fresh. The aftertaste is short. This is a wine that promises a lot on the nose but delivers little in the mouth.

I bought this bottle in San Giminiano, at the same shop where last year I purchased the bottle of Carato 2016 produced by Montenidoli that exited me (www.thelovedwine.com/carato-2016). Continue reading “L’Albereta Riserva 2017”

Tenuta Trerose Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2016

The colour is medium garnet. On the nose sour cherries and some animal notes. In the mouth a pronounced acidity, with a gently tannic “tea-leaf” finish. The aftertaste is rather short.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of several classic Tuscan red wines based on the Sangiovese grape variety. It comes from the vineyards that surround the town of Montepulciano. Sangiovese (known locally as Prugnolo Gentile) must make up at least 70% of the final wine. In this case, the blend is 90% Prugnolo Gentile, 5% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Rocca Guicciarda 2017

The colour is medium red. On the nose aroma of cherries, with light oaky notes. In the mouth good acidity and well-integrated tannins. The finish recalls the fruit perceived on the nose. The aftertaste is subtle, but medium long.

Rocca Guicciarda is produced by Barone Ricasoli, whose Castello di Brolio is one of the most important and historic Chianti Classico’s producing estates. Broglio Castle has been in the family’s ownership since 1141, but it was Bettino Ricasoli, who made it prominent. Continue reading “Rocca Guicciarda 2017”

Le Difese 2018

The colour is deep ruby. Not much neither on the nose, where I barely detect some sour cherries, nor in the mouth, where I feel drying tannins and a bitter finish. The aftertaste is short.

Le Difese is made by Tenuta San Guido, the producer of the famous Sassicaia, first produced with the 1968 vintage. Le Difese is the third wine of the estate, first produced with the 2002 vintage. In between, the winery produces a second wine, labelled Guidalberto, first produced with the 2000 vintage. Continue reading “Le Difese 2018”

Aleatico Passito dell’Elba 2016

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose very fruity, with primary aromas of raisins, mulberries and blackberries. In the mouth savour of ripe grapes and a drying sensation that last in the medium long aftertaste.

Aleatico is an aromatic red grape variety thought to be native to Tuscany, but the vine may have been brought to Italy by the ancient Greeks. Its most famous expression is this sweet wine from Elba. Continue reading “Aleatico Passito dell’Elba 2016”

Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Fèlsina 2008

The colour is medium amber. On the nose nuts, dried fruits and honey. In the mouth rich and velvety. The aftertaste is subtle, but very long.

This Vin Santo is produced by Fèlsina, a winery dedicated to the production of good quality mono-varietals wines, made mainly with the indigenous Sangiovese grape, but also with international varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. The winery is located at the border between the Chianti Classico DOCG and the Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG. Continue reading “Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Fèlsina 2008”
