Plantscher 2016

The colour is medium gold. On the nose notes of apple, apricot, honey and chamomile. In the mouth very fresh. It stimulates salivation and overall gives a silky sensation. The aftertaste is very dry and not very tasty, but it last for a fairly long time.

This unique wine is produced by Chanton, a winery at the center of rare grape preservation in Valais. Continue reading “Plantscher 2016”

Johannisberg de Chamoson 2019

The colour is medium straw. On the nose melon, pear and almond. In the mouth velvety, with a pleasantly slightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable, with a medium long aftertaste.

This wine is made with Sylvaner grapes, known as Johannisberg in Valais. The second most widely planted white grape variety in Valais; although it lags far behind the first, which is Chasselas, called Fendant in Valais. Continue reading “Johannisberg de Chamoson 2019”

Maître de Chais Vieilles Vignes 2017

The colour is medium gold. On the nose Valais apricots and pears, accompanied by honey on a buttered brioche. In the mouth discrete, with a medium lasting aftertaste.

This wine is made with Marsanne and Rousanne grapes, both autochthonous of the French Rhône Valley, which geographically start in the Swiss Canton of Valais, where this wine is produced. Continue reading “Maître de Chais Vieilles Vignes 2017”

Heida-Païen de Charrat 2016

The colour is medium gold. The aroma is a mix of citrus and peanuts, accompanied by a prickly sensation. In the mouth the wine is as rich and tasty as on the nose, with a very pleasant finish and a long aftertaste that reminds the first impressions recorded with the nose.

Heida or Païen is the name given to Savagnin Blanc in Valais. Savagnin Blanc is an ancient white wine grape indigenous of the sub-alpine regions of eastern France. Continue reading “Heida-Païen de Charrat 2016”

Petite Arvine de Saillon 2017

The colour is medium gold. On the nose an aroma of gentian and grapefruit. In the mouth a pleasant minerality, but a less enjoyable bitter finish. A sensation that (unfortunately) accompanies the fairly long aftertaste.

Petite Arvine is an early budding and late ripening white grape variety, which is somewhat fussy in the vineyard. Continue reading “Petite Arvine de Saillon 2017”

Ermitage Caprice du temps 2017

The colour is medium yellow. The nose reminds me of lychees, trees resin and herbs. The aroma keeps changing, which I find fascinating, although after a while it seems to fade away. In the mouth the wine is a bit edgy and leaves the mouth with a rough sensation that recalls a medicine. The alcohol content is a whopping 14%.

This white wine is produced with Marsanne grapes grown in Valais, not far from Sierre. Continue reading “Ermitage Caprice du temps 2017”

Defayes & Crettenand Humagne Blanc 2017

The colour is greenish yellow. The nose is refreshing, with mild notes of menthol accompanying white peaches, lime and some nutty undertones. In the mouth crispy, well-balanced and tasty, with an aftertaste that linger for a long while and is characterised by a hint of fennel.

Lafnetscha 2016

The color is medium gold. The nose is very inviting, with notes of ripe banana and elderberry. In the mouth smooth and pleasantly fresh. The aftertaste, which last for a while, is dominated by the sustained acidity.

This rarity made with Lafnetscha is certainly worth trying at least once, especially if you are a wine enthusiast like me, who get thrilled by tasting godforsaken grapes. Continue reading “Lafnetscha 2016”

Fin Bec Diolinoir 2016

Fruity and spicy nose of cherries and liquorice. In the mouth, beside the tight tannins and some fruity bitterness in the finish, not much worth mentioning. The aftertaste is basically absent.

Judged by the richness of the enjoyment it delivers, at 27 CHF this product is clearly overpriced. Especially if compared on an international scale. Continue reading “Fin Bec Diolinoir 2016”

Stricto Sensu 2013

At the first sight the wine appears pretty dense, signalling a lot of matter. The nose is very rich. Pleasantly spicy, with dark cherries mixed in with some coffee and liquorice. Once in the mouth the wine is less filling than it made you anticipate from the visual and olfactory point of view. On the other hand it is more elegant than expected. A finesse that is confirmed by the discreet aftertaste. Continue reading “Stricto Sensu 2013”
