Amarone Riserva Quintarelli 2003

The colour is deep garnet. On the nose liquorice, tea leaves, black cherries, plumbs, chocolate. In the mouth filling, with a solid structure. Dense and concentrated. The aftertaste is very long.

Amarone Riserva Quintarelli is a blend of 55% Corvina, Croatina, Rondinella and Nebbiolo, 30% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. After manual harvests, the grapes were placed on wooden crates in a well-aerated room. Continue reading “Amarone Riserva Quintarelli 2003”

Jema 2015

The colour is medium ruby. On the nose mocha, chocolate, cinnamon. In the mouth edgy and light-body, with a drying finish. The aftertaste is rather short.

This wine is made by Cesari under the Veronese IGT denomination with 100% Corvina grapes.

Corvina is famous as a key constituent of Valpolicella DOC(G) wines, notably Amarone. When it is bottled on its own, it’s relegated to lowly IGT status. Continue reading “Jema 2015”

Masi Recioto Amarone 1973

The colour is deep tawny. Still very lively. On the nose port like. Coffee, dark chocolate, toasted nuts and balsamic notes. In the mouth very smooth, with a good acidity. The aftertaste last for quite a while.

Amarone can be considered an offspring of Recioto. Legend has it that Amarone was born after a Recioto fermentation was left going for too long. Continue reading “Masi Recioto Amarone 1973”

Prosecco Rosé 2020

The colour is medium copper. On the nose flowers, strawberries and cherries. In the mouth refreshing. The aftertaste is medium long.

This Prosecco Rosé is made by Carpenè Malvolti under the Prosecco DOC denomination. It is a blend of Glera (min. 85%) and Pinot Nero (max. 15%) grapes. Continue reading “Prosecco Rosé 2020”

Kairós 2016

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose very fruity (well matured dark fruits), with some herbs. In the mouth rich and savoury, with a lot of sensations, probably the result of using a wide variety of grapes. The aftertaste is medium long.

Kairos is made by blending an astonishing 16 grapes. Continue reading “Kairós 2016”

Osar 2006

The colour is very dark ruby, almost black. On the nose ripe blackberries and cola. In the mouth plenty of tannins. The slightly fruity and mainly drying aftertaste is pretty long.

Osar is made with 100% Oseleta grapes, an extremely rare red wine variety grown in the northwestern region of Veneto in Italy. The earliest documentation relating to Oseleta dates back only 150 years or so, but oral tradition in the region holds that the variety has been used there for many centuries. Oro Puro

On the nose this Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG presents the apple and pear aroma (or white peach, depending on your point of reference) typical of Glera, the main grape variety used to produce Prosecco (at least 85% of the blend).

The apple-pear marriage is apparent in the mouth as well, where the high acidity is nicely balanced by the effervescence. Continue reading “Oro Puro”

Dal Forno Romano Vigneto Monte Lodoletta Valpolicella Superiore 2010

On the nose primarily coffee, cacao and cherry. Some vegetable notes are also clearly detectable and they accompany you in the mouth till the end, with a rough feel that I personally find a bit disturbing, but could also be peculiar to this unique wine. Continue reading “Dal Forno Romano Vigneto Monte Lodoletta Valpolicella Superiore 2010”

i Filari del Nino 2016

The only reason I bought this Bardolino DOC Classico is because it is made without any sulphites added, and I was curious to judge the result.

The nose is very fresh and clean. Not obvious, given the bacteriological risks associated with not adding sulphites. The aroma of sour-cherry typical of the Corvina grape dominates.  Continue reading “i Filari del Nino 2016”
