On the nose nutty flavours, with notes of lemon and melon, accompanied by some smoky sensations. Almost oily mouthfeel, balanced by minerality more than acidity. Once swollen, at first not much. It gets better with successive sips, but nothing special, beside the pleasant mineral mouthfeel.
Judging from the nose, you would think the wine spent some time in wood, instead it is fermented in stainless steel tanks and before release aged for 7 months in bottle.
This DOC wine is made with a field blend of Sicilian local varieties: Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia and Minella. With 2/3 of the blend, Carricante clearly dominates, accompanied by Catarratto, which make up another 1/4. To be more specific the 2015 vintage is composed of 60% Carricante, 25% Catarratto, 10% Grecanico and 5% Minnella.
I bought this bottle at Boucherville in Zurich for 19 CHF. Overall a well-made wine, but not a style I’m particularly fond of. As white wine I definitely prefer a Chasselas from Vaud or an Alsatian Pinot Gris.
