The colour is pale yellow. On the nose tangerine, ananas, banana, jasmine. In the mouth fresh, but without much flavour. The aftertaste is watery and short.
This white wine is made with Solaris and other fungus resistant varieties (PIWI). PIWI is an acronym for the German word pilzwiderstandfähig (fungus resistant).
As indicated by the name, PIWI grape varieties have a high resistance to fungal diseases and enable a significant reduction in the use of pesticides.
Among the white PIWI grape varieties we find: Bronner, Cabernet Blanc, Charvir, Fleurtai, Helios, Kersus, Johanniter, Muscaris, Palma, Pinot Iskra, Sauvignon Kretos, Sauvignon Rytos, Sauvignon Nepis, Solaris, Soreli, Souvignier Gris, Valnosia.
Among the red PIWI grape varieties we can mention: Cabernet Carbon, Cabernet Cortis, Cabernet Eldos, Cabernet Volos, Cabertin, Julius, Merlot Khorus, Merlot Kanthus, Nermantis, Pinotin, Pinot Kors, Pinot Regina, Prior, Regent, Sevar, Termantis, Volturnis.
Vagabondo Bianco is made by Marcel Zanolari under the Alpi Retiche IGT.
Alpi Retiche IGT (formerly Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio) is a key IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) title of Lombardy in Italy. It was created in Valtellina, near the Swiss border, in 1995, and changed name in 2017. Many producers within the Valtellina DOC zone use the designation for some of their wines, most likely to add different styles or grape varieties to their portfolio.
I got this bottle as a present. On the winery website it sells for 25 CHF.
