The colour is medium gold. On the nose aromas of apricot, peach, citrus, peanuts, chamomile and minerals. On the mouth fresh and elegant, with a lemon-flavoured aftertaste that last for quite some time.
This wine is made with 100% Viognier grapes by Maison Varone.
Viognier is a unique grape variety known to produce full-bodied white wines. It is the premier white grape of Northern Rhone (France). Viognier wines can be difficult to craft, since there is only a brief window when the grapes can be harvested to acquire the best aromas and flavors. The most expensive and critically acclaimed examples are grown in the appellation of Condrieu, founded in 1940. DNA analysis has shown a close relationship between Viognier and Syrah.
Founded in 1900, the family-owned Maison Varone was the first winery in Valais to fill its quality wines into bottles instead of only using open containers. This ensured the commercial development of Varone wines in gastronomy and also with private customers in Switzerland and abroad. In 1992, Maison Varone joined with Bonvin 1858 Les Domaines to create Les Celliers de Sion with the aim of developing synergies and at the same time rationalising some redundant activities.
At the winery this bottle sells for 23 CHF.
