Untertürkheim am Neckar is a wine-producing borough of Stuttgart on the eastern banks of the Neckar river, in the Württemberg region of Germany. Wine has been a key cultural and economic activity in the region since the 13th Century, though heavy industry has been more important during the last century. Untertürkheim houses the corporate headquarters of the automotive giant Daimler AG, producer of Mercedes-Benz.
This is a varietal wine made with Lemberger grapes, known as Blaufrankisch in Austria, where it is the second most popular red-wine variety behind Zweigelt (a crossing of Blaufrankisch with Saint-Laurent). Blaufrankisch was long thought to be genetically identical to Pinot Noir.
I bought this bottle for 10.49 EUR at Kaufland in Stuttgard. It was among the most expensive German red wines on sale.
