So far, my posts have been inspired mainly by grape varieties and wine regions. From now on I will also write about wines which are on special offer and that I judge to be good deals. At 10 CHF Séptima Gran Reserva 2015 is one of them.
The colour is Deep Purple. On the nose dark berries jam. In the mouth the tannins are well integrated. The finish is slightly bitter. The aftertaste is fairly long, but devoid of the fruits perceived on the nose. I find it a wine ready to drink. Better enjoyed with food than on its own.
This wine is produced in the Argentine wine region of Mendoza. It is a blend of 62% Malbec, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Tannat. The vineyards are located above 1’000 m/s on the slopes of the lower Andes mountains.
Séptima Winery was created in 1999 by Raventós Codorníu, the oldest winegrowing business in Spain and the creator of Cava, the Spanish sparkling wine. Raventós Codorníu Group currently comprises fourteen wineries, twelve of which are in Spain. The only other winery abroad is in Napa Valley.
The Gran Reserva is the top wine produced at Séptima, a winery with the capacity of making 3’000’000 bottles a year.
