The colour is medium purple. On the nose cherries, blackberries, coffee. In the mouth light, but tasty and agreeable. The aftertaste is medium long.
This red wine is made with Listán Negro grapes under the Lanzarote DO. It matured in oak barrels for four months.
Lanzarote is the easternmost island in the Canary Island archipelago and is characterised by very dry weather. It has a unique landscape, in that the centre of the island is covered by solidified black lava (from a volcanic eruption in 1730–36). This means that nothing can grow there, but around the edges of this mass of lava, conditions are ideal for vines due to the presence of a layer of volcanic ash, known as lapilli. This layer of ash allows quick absorption of rain, prevents it from evaporating, and helps to maintain constant the temperature of the soil underneath. The vine plantations are carried out in holes of 3 meters in diameter and about 2 meters of depth.
Some 30 wineries are part of the Lanzarote DO. Vega de Yuco, who produces this wine, is among them.
For this bottle I paid 18.50 EUR at Spar in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria.
